Welcome to
Rancho De Santos

We practice sustainable ranching in South Texas for cattle and wildlife.

Our approach

Rancho-De-Santos (RS) was founded in 2018 with the goal of increasing value and sustainability of a South-Central Texas family ranch. This operation involves Hereford and Brahman cattle and F1 hybrid vigor breeding strategies to produce exceptional calves. Our primary breeding objective is to crossbreed registered Hereford and Brahman cattle using artificial reproductive technologies to produce polled Certified Gold F1 Braford heifers.

Sustainable grass and natural resource management

We are currently managing rangeland pastures predominated with King Ranch Bluestem grass as well as the many brush species of South-Central Texas. Our management considers stocking rate and forage sustainability in pasture rotation decisions. We are initiating projects to reintroduce native rangeland grasses and seedy plants to improve habitat for deer and quail. Most importantly, we greatly improved the water facilities that benefits both cattle and wildlife.

Stockmanship for exceptional cattle welfare and performance in South-Central Texas

We follow recommendations of the Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) program sponsored by National Cattlemen’s Beef Association; therefore, have a strong health and nutrition programs and practice low stress handling strategies. We also breed for the polled
phenotype and often used female sexed semen to generate heifers born without dystocia.

Cattle breeding for hybrid vigor, reproductive performance, and adaptability

We select our sires and dams to provide Hereford and Brahman breed complementarity (i.e., balance of Bos indicus heat tolerance with British Bos taurus growth and carcass). We use maternal selection index information from both breed associations to help choose AI sires and use female sexed semen for calf crops primarily of heifers. We also place great selection emphasis on calving ease, gentle disposition and the polled phenotype.

Ranch Development

RS was established by our family in the fall of 2018, and since, we have been working to improve the ranch’s water and grazing infrastructure; therefore, we have been active improving water systems to facilitate seasonal pasture management strategies, and most importantly, brush control. Our natural resource management strategies benefit cattle and wildlife. We are methodically building a cow-herd of polled Hereford and Brahman females to be used in artificial insemination (AI) and embryo transfer (ET) approaches to produce polled F1 Braford heifers adapted to South Central Texas. This ranch was initiated east of Weesatche, Texas in Goliad County with the intent of growing the operation with advancing generations.
